TRC4 – Textron Aviation OEM Valve Core

Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.

Overview

The Textron Aviation TRC4 is a genuine OEM, flight-critical valve core, the standard component used for inflation and pressure retention in aircraft tires and oleo-pneumatic landing gear struts. This is not an automotive valve core; it is a precision-engineered, high-pressure check valve manufactured to the exacting standards required for aviation safety. The TRC4 is designed to operate reliably under the high pressures and wide temperature ranges experienced in aerospace applications. As a genuine Textron-specified part, it guarantees conformance to the material and quality standards required for certified aircraft.

Key Features

  • High-Pressure Capability: Specifically engineered to safely contain the high pressures used in aircraft tires (often exceeding 100 PSI) and landing gear struts (which can be several hundred PSI), far exceeding the capabilities of standard automotive valve cores.
  • Durable Construction: Features a robust brass housing and a stainless steel pin for superior strength and corrosion resistance. The seals are made from a specialized elastomer formulated for compatibility with nitrogen and aviation hydraulic fluids.
  • Positive One-Way Seal: Functions as a one-way check valve. The internal spring and seal allow high-pressure nitrogen or air to enter the tire or strut during servicing, then automatically seat to create a positive seal and prevent pressure loss.
  • Industry Standard Design: The TRC4 is the commercial industry standard that is dimensionally and functionally equivalent to the military specification MS-20813-1. This ensures universal compatibility with all standard aircraft valve stems.
  • Vibration Resistance: The spring and seal design are engineered to remain seated and sealed under the constant, high-frequency vibrations of taxi, takeoff, and landing operations.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: TRC4
  • Military Standard Equivalent: MS-20813-1
  • Component Type: High-Pressure Valve Core (Schrader Type)
  • Body Material: Brass
  • Pin Material: Stainless Steel
  • Seal Material: Specialized, Fluid-Resistant Elastomer

Aircraft Compatibility

The TRC4 is a universal component used in the valve stems of nearly every aircraft in the Textron Aviation fleet and across the entire general, business, and commercial aviation industries.

  • Aircraft Platforms:
    • Textron Aviation: Cessna (all models), Beechcraft (all models), Hawker
    • Other Manufacturers: Piper, Cirrus, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Boeing, Airbus, etc.
  • Primary Applications:
    • Main and nose wheel tire inflation valve stems.
    • Oleo-pneumatic landing gear strut inflation/servicing valves.
    • Hydraulic accumulator charging valves.

Applications

The TRC4 is an essential component for ground servicing and flight operations:

  • Tire & Strut Inflation: Allows for the safe and efficient servicing of tires and struts with high-pressure nitrogen.
  • Pressure Retention: Its primary function is to maintain the correct operating pressure in tires and struts over long periods.
  • Mandatory Maintenance Item: Valve cores are typically replaced every time a tire is changed or a strut is serviced to ensure a fresh, reliable seal.

Why Choose TRC4?

Proper tire and strut pressure are critical for safe ground handling, takeoff performance, and landing operations. A slow leak caused by a faulty valve core can lead to an underinflated tire and subsequent failure. The Textron-specified TRC4 is a certified aviation-grade component, not to be confused with a visually similar automotive part. It is built with superior materials and to higher quality standards to handle the pressures and temperature extremes of aviation. For a component so inexpensive yet so critical to safety, there is no substitute for a genuine, certified part

The TRC4 valve core is a type of poppet valve, operating within the larger valve stem housing. It consists of a movable pin (the poppet) held against a seal by a calibrated spring. During inflation, the pressure from the servicing hose pushes the pin inward, unseating it and allowing air or nitrogen to flow into the tire or strut. When the hose is removed, the internal pressure of the tire/strut, assisted by the spring, instantly pushes the poppet outward, creating a tight seal. The integrity of this seal is entirely dependent on the quality of the elastomeric seal and the precision of the seating surfaces—features that are guaranteed in a certified TRC4 component.

Note: This is a flight-critical component. Installation should be performed by a certified A&P mechanic. Always use a calibrated valve core tool for installation to prevent over-torquing, which can damage the core or the valve stem. A leak check must be performed after inflation.
