WAAS Upgrade Certification for Cirrus Aircraft with Avidyne PFD

For Cirrus SR-20 and SR-22

All Cirrus Aircraft equipped with the Avidyne Primary Flight Display (PFD) are eligible for WAAS upgrade certification, provided they have at least Release 7 installed. If your aircraft does not have Release 7, the PFD will need to be exchanged or sent to Avidyne for an upgrade. In such cases, it may be worthwhile to also upgrade your autopilot to an Avidyne DFC90 due to significant overlapping costs. For the best course of action tailored to your specific situation, it is recommended to contact an Avidyne Dealer.

Compliance with Cirrus Service Bulletins

All Cirrus Aircraft undergoing WAAS upgrades must comply with the following Cirrus Service Bulletins:

• Service Bulletin 2X-34-23: For non-PFD equipped aircraft
• Service Bulletin 2X-34-24: For PFD equipped aircraft

Below is a guideline for the costs and downtime associated with these bulletins:

Upgrading #1 GPS (GNS430/420)

• If XM Weather is Installed: Kit 70190-002 is required. The purchase price is $2,669.98, plus 8.0 to 9.0 labor hours for installation.
• If XM Weather is NOT Installed: Kit 70190-001 is required. The purchase price is $2,804.51, plus 3.0 to 4.0 labor hours for installation.

Upgrading #2 GPS (GNS430/420)

• Kit 70190-003 ($1,931.29) must be purchased and installed in addition to the above. However, the aft cabin ceiling must be inspected to determine if your aircraft has a pre-existing EMM modification.
  • No EMM Modification (G1 & G2 Aircraft): 14.5 hours of labor required.
  • With EMM Modification (G3 Aircraft): 3.0 hours of labor required.

ELT Shielding

All Cirrus aircraft with a 121.5 MHz ELT must have p/n 18389-001 shield installed. The part costs $81.38, with minimal installation costs.

Note: There might be overlap in pricing due to both Garmin and Cirrus supplying new antennas as part of the WAAS upgrade and the above kits. Efforts are underway to prevent redundant costs by eliminating the need for two antennas from different suppliers. Additional part numbers may be introduced to resolve this issue.
