Overview

The Teledyne Gill 7638-44 is a genuine OEM, high-capacity, 24-volt sealed lead-acid battery, part of Gill's advanced 7000 Series. This is a flight-critical component engineered to provide exceptional starting power for demanding turboprop and light jet engines, as well as reliable essential and emergency standby power. Utilizing state-of-the-art Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) and Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) technology, the 7638-44 delivers immense, instantaneous current for engine starting in a non-spillable, maintenance-free package. It is the factory-specified, trusted power source for a wide range of high-performance corporate and utility aircraft.

Key Features

  • Advanced VRLA/AGM Technology: Features a fully sealed, Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) design where the electrolyte is completely absorbed into a matrix of microfiber glass mat separators. This spill-proof AGM design allows the battery to be mounted in any orientation and is certified for aerobatic flight.
  • Maintenance-Free Operation: The battery's internal chemistry allows for the recombination of gases generated during charging, eliminating the need for periodic water replenishment and specific gravity checks. This provides a significant reduction in maintenance workload and costs.
  • Superior Turbine Starting Power: Engineered with a low-impedance design, heavy-duty intercell connections, and high-purity lead plates. This provides a higher voltage under load and delivers the massive current required for faster, cooler starts of turbine engines, reducing stress on the starter-generator.
  • Exceptional Durability & Vibration Resistance: The AGM construction rigidly supports the internal plates, making the battery extremely resistant to the shock and vibration common in the aerospace environment. This prevents the plate damage and shedding of active material that can cause premature failure in flooded batteries.
  • Genuine OEM Specification: As a genuine Teledyne Gill battery, it is manufactured to the original specifications required by aircraft manufacturers, ensuring proper fit, electrical performance, and airworthiness.

The Gill 7638-44 is the specified OEM main ship battery for a wide variety of the world's most successful business jets and turboprops. It is imperative to consult the specific aircraft's Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) or the current Gill application guide for final verification.

  • Common Aircraft Platforms:
    • Textron Aviation: Cessna Citation 500, 501, 550, 551, S550; Beechcraft King Air 200, B200
    • Dassault Falcon: 10, 100
    • Learjet: 31A, 35, 36
    • Piper: Cheyenne 400LS
    • And many other high-performance aircraft.

Applications

The 7638-44 is the heart of the aircraft's electrical system, designed for high-demand roles:

  • Turbine Engine Starting: Provides the primary electrical power for spooling up turbofan and turboprop engines via their starter-generators.
  • Essential & Emergency Power: In the event of a total generator failure, it provides DC power to the aircraft's essential and emergency busses, powering the flight deck displays, navigation, communication, and critical flight instruments.
  • APU Starting & Ground Operations: Powers aircraft systems on the ground, including starting the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), when a GPU is not available.

Why Choose 7638-44?

The dispatch reliability of a corporate or charter aircraft is paramount. The Teledyne Gill 7638-44 is the certified component designed and tested by aircraft manufacturers to provide the power needed for reliable starts in all climates. Its advanced AGM technology offers a level of safety and convenience that older flooded batteries cannot match, eliminating the risk of hazardous acid spills. Using the genuine, specified battery is the only way to ensure the aircraft has the certified power reserves and starting capability required for all operational and emergency scenarios.

The Gill 7638-44 is a Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) battery that utilizes an oxygen recombination cycle. During the final stages of charging, oxygen gas is generated at the positive plates. In a traditional flooded battery, this gas is vented overboard. In the 7638-44's sealed Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) design, the oxygen is trapped and migrates to the negative plates. There, it reacts with the lead and sulfuric acid, effectively "recombining" to form water (

). This process prevents the loss of water from the electrolyte, which is why the battery is truly maintenance-free. The pressure relief valve is a critical safety feature that will only vent gas in an abnormal overcharge situation, preventing a dangerous buildup of internal pressure.

Note: This is a flight-critical component. While maintenance-free, regular capacity checks are required as part of the aircraft's maintenance program to ensure continued airworthiness. Always use a temperature-compensating aircraft battery charger/maintainer to ensure maximum battery life. Installation must be performed by a certified A&P or AME mechanic.
