Kelly Aerospace's Magneto part number 6379  is a single aircraft magneto built for various six-cylinder aircraft engines. This mag differentiates itself from other aircraft mags in that it is an impulse type mag, this particular mag is also left-hand rotation and the mag will include the mag gasket.

* The mag does NOT come with the drive gear. Remove your drive gear before sending us the core.

  • Type: Impulsed (Pressurized)
  • Degree Lag: 45
  • Rotation: Left-Hand Rotation
  • Weight: 5 lbs

Features:

  • Lift-off housing – this prevents disturbing the internal timing of the mag during inspections.
  • Fully sealed bearings – Keeps the nasty stuff out of the internals of the mag to allow for longer life, less maintenance, and great operation.
  • Lower EMI – This lowers radio noise and interference significantly.

This mag will fit the engines listed below. This list is not a complete list, make sure to verify that you are ordering the right mag for your aircraft before placing your order.

Your core return must match the same mag you purchase from AirParts. Your core return mag will be immediately inspected for non-standard damage and wear. If there are any items in the overhaul of your core return that exceed standard overhaul charges, you will be "billed back" for those costs. Additionally, your mag core return may not be accepted if damaged beyond economical repair.

How is an aircraft magneto like this overhauled?
Generally, overhauling an impulse-based aircraft magneto will require adherence to the mag's overhaul manual and will include all the parts necessary to basically rebuild the mag and return it to like-new condition. Once that is done, an 8130-3 document will be issued against that magneto that will comply with FAA and EASA regulations. To comply, the mag will undergo extensive rework which includes repainting the body, replacing points, condensers, brushes, impulse springs, and the pinion gear. New bearings are installed and then the mag is tested to verify proper operation.

What is the life expectancy of this mag?
According to the OEM Repair and Overhaul Manual, the magneto should be overhauled at any time you are overhauling your engine, if you have a propeller strike, a lightning strike, if the aircraft is immersed in water or suffers water damage to the engine compartment, or anytime you have a sudden stoppage of the engine.

Is there a core charge for this mag?
Yes, the core charge is $500.00. This core charge will be held until your core mag completes the inspection, prior to the overhaul of your returned core mag. Once the mag has been accepted for overhaul, AirParts will return your core deposit. Core deposits are not refunded if your mag is returned to us after 30 days.
