DA1605 – Dupli-Color Black Enamel (Gloss) High-Performance Coating

Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.

The Dupli-Color DA1605 is a premium, high-solids general-purpose enamel spray paint designed for durability, high-gloss retention, and superior coverage. While widely used in the automotive and industrial sectors, the DA1605 is a staple in the aviation hangar for the refurbishment of ground support equipment (GSE), non-structural interior brackets, and engine compartment accessories that require a resilient, "factory-look" finish.

Formulated with an advanced EZ Touch® 360° Fan Spray Nozzle, the DA1605 allows for professional-grade application with minimal overspray. This enamel coating is engineered to be "high-build," meaning it fills minor surface imperfections and provides a thick, protective barrier against moisture, salt, and common shop chemicals. The "Black 12" designation refers to its deep, classic gloss black finish, providing a consistent aesthetic for everything from cockpit seat frames to landing gear toolings.

Key Features

  • High-Gloss Finish: Delivers a brilliant, deep black shine that resists dulling and chalking over time.

  • EZ Touch® 360° Nozzle: A wide-pattern fan spray nozzle that adjusts to spray at any angle, reducing finger fatigue and ensuring an even coat on complex geometries.

  • Fast-Drying Formula: Dries to the touch in 30 minutes and is handleable within 1 hour, significantly reducing downtime in the maintenance shop.

  • Superior Adhesion: Bonds strongly to metal, wood, and most plastics (when properly primed), providing a chip-resistant surface.

  • Chemical Resistance: Once fully cured, the enamel provides moderate resistance to gasoline, oil, and cleaning solvents common in the aerospace environment.

  • Non-Structural Interior Hardware: Painting seat rails, trim brackets, and pedestal bases where a high-durability finish is required.

  • Engine Baffles & Brackets: Providing a heat-resistant (up to approx. 250°F) finish for accessory brackets and air baffling.

  • Shop Tooling: Color-coding or protecting specialized maintenance jigs and fixtures.

Why Choose DA1605?

In the hangar, "rattle-can" paints are often viewed with skepticism, but the Dupli-Color DA1605 stands apart due to its high pigment load. Cheap hardware-store paints often require 4–5 coats to achieve full opacity; the DA1605 typically achieves total coverage in 2 coats. Furthermore, the modified enamel resin is specifically designed to be flexible, meaning it won't "spider-web" or crack when applied to components subject to thermal expansion or moderate vibration. It provides an efficient, cost-effective way to maintain the professional appearance and corrosion resistance of your support equipment.

The DA1605 is an Aerosol Enamel and requires specific surface preparation to ensure a long-lasting bond. For metallic surfaces, the substrate should be de-greased using an aviation-grade solvent (like MEK or MPK) and scuffed with a red Scotch-Brite™ pad.

Pro-Tip: To avoid "orange peel" texture, ensure the aerosol can is at room temperature before spraying. If the shop is cold, soak the can in warm (not hot) water for 5 minutes to increase internal pressure and improve atomization.

Safety Warning: This product contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Always use in a well-ventilated area or with a NIOSH-approved respirator. Do not use on primary flight control surfaces or high-heat engine components (exhaust/turbines) as this enamel is not rated for those specific structural or thermal environments.
