The K3975 kit's coil and capacitor work together to create the high-voltage spark. As the magneto rotates, a magnetic field builds in the coil's primary winding. At the precise moment for ignition, the breaker points open, interrupting the flow of current. The capacitor included in the kit absorbs the initial surge of electricity, preventing an arc from forming across the points and allowing for a clean, instantaneous break in the circuit. This sudden stop in current flow causes a rapid collapse of the magnetic field. According to Faraday's law of induction, this rapid change in magnetic flux induces a very high voltage (up to 20,000 volts or more) in the coil's thousands of secondary windings.
