802300-14 – Textron Aviation OEM Zodiac AVOX Protective Breathing Equipment EEBD Smoke Hood

Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.

Overview

The 802300-14 is a genuine OEM, flight-critical Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) / Emergency Escape Breathing Device (EEBD), commonly known as a "smoke hood." Manufactured by Zodiac AVOX (now part of Safran), this unit is specified by Textron Aviation for use on their line of Cessna Citation and Beechcraft King Air aircraft. This self-contained life support device is designed to provide breathable air and full head protection for crew members in the event of an in-flight fire or a smoke-filled cabin. It allows the flight crew to maintain control of the aircraft, fight the fire, and aid in passenger evacuation in a toxic smoke environment.

*** ONLY AVAILABLE FOR TEXTRON AIRCRAFT - MUST PROVIDE YOUR TAIL NUMBER, REGISTRATION, SERIAL NUMBER, AND OWNERSHIP INFORMATION TO PLACE ORDER ****

Key Features

  • Self-Contained Oxygen Generation: Utilizes two solid-state chemical oxygen generators. Upon activation, these generators provide a minimum of 15 minutes of breathable oxygen, completely independent of the aircraft's systems.
  • Full Hood & Neck Seal Protection: The unit features a high-visibility, flame-resistant hood made of Kapton® film, which completely encloses the head. A flexible neoprene neck seal prevents the ingress of toxic smoke and fumes, protecting the user's eyes, head, and respiratory system.
  • Rapid, Failsafe Activation: Designed for quick and simple donning in an emergency. Pulling the activation ring fires a percussion primer in each oxygen generator, initiating the chemical reaction that produces oxygen.
  • CO2 Scrubber System: The integrated oral-nasal mask and speech diaphragm includes a carbon dioxide scrubber. This system removes exhaled CO₂ from the closed-loop breathing circuit, preventing hypercapnia (CO₂ poisoning).
  • Anti-Fog Visual Protection: The Kapton® hood is treated with an anti-fog coating, ensuring the user maintains clear visibility, which is essential for reading instruments and navigating a smoke-filled cabin.

    • Textron Aviation (Beechcraft): King Air 200, 300, 350 series
    • Textron Aviation (Hawker): 800, 900 series

Applications

The 802300-14 is a critical piece of onboard emergency and life-saving equipment:

  • In-Flight Firefighting: Allows a crew member to enter a smoke-filled area to locate and extinguish a fire with a handheld extinguisher.
  • Emergency Evacuation: Provides breathable air for the crew to direct and assist passengers during an evacuation in a smoke-filled cabin.
  • Pilot Protection: Enables the flight crew to remain on the flight deck and maintain control of the aircraft while dealing with smoke in the cockpit.

Why Choose 802300-14?

In an in-flight fire, smoke and toxic fumes are the greatest threat to life. The AVOX 802300-14 is the certified, life-saving device designed to provide crew members with the breathable air needed to combat the emergency and save the aircraft. Using a genuine OEM part as specified by Textron Aviation is the only way to ensure the unit has a known service life, a fully traceable manufacturing history, and the certified performance required by airworthiness regulations. For a component this critical to crew and passenger survival, there is no substitute for a genuine, factory-sealed OEM unit.

The oxygen generation technology in the 802300-14 is based on a solid-state chemical reaction. The core of each generator contains a chemical compound, typically sodium chlorate (

NaClO3

). When the percussion primer is fired, it ignites a small charge which starts a self-sustaining, exothermic chemical decomposition of the sodium chlorate. This reaction liberates a large volume of pure, breathable oxygen (

2NaClO3→2NaCl+3O2

). This method is extremely robust, reliable, and provides a long shelf life, as the oxygen is stored in a stable, solid chemical form until it is needed. The heat generated by the reaction is managed by the design of the canister.

Note: This is a flight-critical life support device with a fixed service life and mandatory replacement date. It is a single-use item. Once the vacuum seal is broken or the unit is activated, it must be replaced. It must be stowed in accordance with the aircraft's certified configuration. Handling and disposal may be subject to specific regulations.Part Number: 802300-14
