600075-11 – Mooney Aircraft Carburetor Heat Box
Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.
Overview
The Mooney 600075-11 is a genuine OEM, flight-critical carburetor air box, an essential component of the induction and anti-icing system for the Mooney M20J and M20K series of aircraft. This is not a simple filter housing; it is a precision-fabricated assembly that serves as a selectable air intake. It is designed to provide the engine with either cold, filtered air for maximum power during normal operations, or heated, unfiltered air to prevent or eliminate the formation of carburetor ice. As a genuine Mooney part, it guarantees the precise fit and functionality required for this critical safety system.
Key Features
Dual-Inlet Air Selection: The core of the assembly is a chamber with two distinct inlets: one for filtered ambient air and another for heated air ducted from a shroud around the exhaust system. An internal butterfly valve, controlled by the pilot, pivots to select the air source.
Critical Anti-Icing System: The carburetor heat function is a primary flight safety system. By introducing hot air, it prevents or melts the formation of ice in the carburetor venturi, which can cause a partial or complete loss of engine power.
Durable Aluminum Construction: Fabricated from a high-quality, lightweight aluminum alloy sheet, formed and riveted to create a durable and rigid housing that can withstand the vibration and heat of the engine compartment.
Precision Valve Mechanism: Features a robust butterfly valve and shaft assembly designed for smooth, binding-free operation. This ensures the pilot can reliably select the desired air source when needed.
Genuine Mooney OEM Part: As a genuine factory component, it guarantees conformance to the exact dimensions, material specifications, and airflow characteristics required by the aircraft's original Type Certificate.

Mooney M20J (201)
Mooney M20K (231 & 252)
Applications
The 600075-11 is a flight-critical component essential for safe engine operation in a wide range of atmospheric conditions:
Carburetor Ice Prevention: The primary means of preventing and clearing carburetor ice, a condition that can occur even on warm, humid days.
Alternate Air Source: In the event the primary air filter becomes blocked (e.g., by ice or debris), selecting carb heat provides an alternate, unfiltered source of air to keep the engine running.
Engine System Maintenance: The air box is a key component to inspect during annual and 100-hour inspections for cracks, valve security, and freedom of movement.
Why Choose 600075-11?
Carburetor icing is a serious in-flight hazard that has been a factor in countless engine failure accidents. The 600075-11 air box is the heart of the system that protects your engine from this threat. Using a genuine Mooney OEM part is the only way to ensure the assembly fits correctly, that the internal valve seals properly in both positions, and that the materials can withstand the firewall-forward environment. For a safety system this critical, there is no substitute for a genuine, fully traceable OEM part.

The 600075-11 air box is a critical application of the Venturi effect and thermodynamics. Carburetor ice forms when the drop in air pressure and the vaporization of fuel in the carburetor's venturi cause a severe temperature drop. This can cause moisture in the induction air to freeze and block the venturi, starving the engine of its fuel/air mixture. The 600075-11 solves this by allowing the pilot to select an alternate air source that is ducted from a metal shroud surrounding a hot section of the exhaust system. This heated air raises the temperature of the entire induction path above freezing, either melting any existing ice or preventing it from forming in the first place. The butterfly valve inside the box must create a tight seal when in the "COLD" position to prevent any hot air from leaking in, which would reduce the engine's power output due to the less dense air.
Note: This is a flight-critical engine and anti-icing system component. Installation must be performed by a certified A&P mechanic. Proper rigging of the carburetor heat control cable and a full functional check of the valve's range of motion are mandatory after installation. The associated air filter must be serviced or replaced at the same time.
