AB-357426K – Kelly Aerospace FAA-PMA Distribution Block Assembly Kit

Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.

Overview

The Kelly Aerospace AB-357426K is an FAA-PMA approved distribution block assembly kit, engineered as a high-quality, direct replacement for the original Bendix component. This is a flight-critical part of an aircraft magneto, responsible for receiving the high-voltage pulse from the ignition coil and distributing it to the correct spark plug lead in the engine's firing order. Manufactured by Kelly Aerospace Power Systems (now part of Hartzell Engine Tech), this kit includes the high-dielectric strength distributor block, the distributor gear, and associated hardware, providing the essential components for a reliable magneto overhaul or repair.

Key Features

  • High-Dielectric Strength Material: The distributor block is molded from a specialized, high-dielectric strength polymer. This material is designed to prevent high-voltage arcing and "carbon tracking" between terminals, which is a common failure mode in older, contaminated blocks.
  • Precision-Molded Rotor Gear: The kit includes a new distributor gear, precision-molded for a perfect mesh with the magneto's drive gear. The gear's integrated rotor finger is designed to maintain a precise, minute air gap with the block's terminals for efficient, arc-free voltage transfer.
  • Suppresses Radio Interference (RFI): A properly functioning distributor block is essential for suppressing radio frequency interference. This assembly is designed to contain the high-voltage energy, preventing it from radiating and causing noise in the aircraft's communication and navigation radios.
  • Direct PMA Replacement: A certified FAA-PMA direct replacement for the original Bendix P/N 357426 and associated components, guaranteeing perfect form, fit, and function in specified Bendix magnetos.
  • Comprehensive Kit: The "K" designation signifies a complete kit, providing the primary wear and replacement components of the distributor section, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable repair.

  • Common Bendix Magneto Series:
    • S-20, S-200 Series
  • Common Engine Platforms:
    • Continental: O-200, O-300, O-470, IO-360, IO-520, IO-550
    • Lycoming: O-320, IO-360, O-540, IO-540
  • Common Aircraft Platforms:
    • A vast range of aircraft from Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, and Mooney that utilize the above engine and magneto combinations.

Applications

The AB-357426K is a critical kit for ignition system maintenance and overhaul:

  • Magneto Overhaul: A mandatory replacement item during a 500-hour inspection or major overhaul of a Bendix magneto to ensure the integrity of the high-voltage distribution path.
  • Troubleshooting Ignition Issues: Replaced to resolve issues of engine cross-firing, misfiring, or rough running that can be caused by cracks, carbon tracking, or moisture contamination in the old distributor block.

Why Choose AB-357426K?

The precise and reliable distribution of spark energy is fundamental to a smooth-running and safe aircraft engine. The distributor block is constantly subjected to extreme electrical stress. The Kelly Aerospace AB-357426K provides a high-quality, FAA-PMA certified solution from a trusted leader in aviation ignition. Using this complete kit ensures that the primary components of the magneto's high-voltage section are new, properly matched, and made from modern materials that meet or exceed the performance of the original parts.

SEO-Enhanced Addendum

The AB-357426K distributor block assembly operates like the distributor cap and rotor in a car but is built to much higher standards. The high-voltage pulse from the magneto's coil (often >20,000 volts) is fed to a central carbon button in the block. The rotating distributor gear, driven by the magneto's main gear, has a conductive rotor finger. As the gear turns, the finger passes in very close proximity (but does not touch) each of the individual brass or stainless steel terminals embedded in the block. As the finger aligns with a terminal, the high-voltage pulse easily jumps this tiny air gap and is directed out to the appropriate ignition lead and spark plug. The high-dielectric polymer of the block is essential for preventing this high voltage from arcing to an adjacent terminal (cross-firing) or to the magneto case (grounding out).

Note: This is a flight-critical ignition system component. Installation must be performed by a certified A&P mechanic with experience in magneto overhaul, in strict accordance with the applicable Bendix magneto overhaul manual. Proper internal timing of the distributor gear is essential for the magneto to function correctly.
