PS870B1-2-6OZ – PPG/Bombardier OEM Corrosion Inhibitive Sealant
Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.
The PS870B1-2-6OZ (PPG Aerospace PR-870 Class B-1/2) is a specialized, flight-critical corrosion inhibitive sealant designed for the structural assembly and maintenance of high-performance aircraft. Specifically utilized as an OEM standard for the Bombardier Challenger and Global Express fleets, this manganese dioxide-cured polysulfide compound serves a dual purpose: it provides a high-integrity environmental seal while simultaneously leaching corrosion inhibitors to protect the underlying aluminum structure.
The "B-1/2" designation indicates a "Thixotropic Paste" consistency with a 30-minute application life (pot life). This high-viscosity formulation is engineered for fillet sealing, fastener sealing, and faying surface applications where the sealant must stay in place without sagging, even on vertical or overhead surfaces. Packaged in a SEMKIT 654 (6 Ounce) pre-measured injection tool, the PS870 ensures a perfect mix ratio and air-free application every time, which is essential for maintaining the structural airworthiness of pressurized airframes.
Key Features
Active Corrosion Inhibition: Formulated with soluble chromates that provide a "chemical shield," neutralizing corrosive agents before they can reach the metal substrate.
High Viscosity (Class B): A thick, non-sagging paste ideal for sealing gaps, fasteners, and vertical seams.
Excellent Adhesion: Bonds exceptionally well to aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and various aircraft primers without the need for a separate adhesion promoter in most cases.
Environmental Resilience: Maintains a flexible, rubber-like seal across a wide temperature range (-65F to +250F), resisting degradation from aviation fuels, oils, and water.
SEMKIT Precision: The 6 oz. SEMKIT (Type 654) eliminates manual weighing and mixing errors, ensuring consistent curing properties and material strength.

Why Choose PS870B1-2?
In the aerospace environment, Intergranular Corrosion is a silent threat to structural integrity.10 Choosing the genuine PS870B1-2 ensures that the joint is protected by a sealant with the correct Peel Strength and Elongation properties. Unlike generic industrial sealants, PS870 is engineered to move with the airframe during the "breathing" cycles of pressurization and depressurization. Its chromated formulation acts as a sacrificial barrier, ensuring that even if the seal is slightly compromised, the chemical inhibitors continue to protect the metal. Utilizing the SEMKIT packaging also minimizes waste and ensures that the material meets the strict quality control audits required for Part 145 repair stations.11
The PS870B1-2 operates on the principle of Polysulfide Polymerization.12 When the base and catalyst are mixed in the SEMKIT, a chemical reaction occurs that cross-links the polymer chains, resulting in a Synthetic Rubber with high Shear Strength.
Mixing Tip: To ensure a complete cure, the SEMKIT must be mixed using the specified number of strokes (typically 50–100) while rotating the dasher rod. Failure to mix the "wall material" into the center will result in "soft spots" in the sealant that will never fully cure, compromising the pressure vessel's integrity.
Note: The PS870B1-2 contains strontium chromate and must be handled in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Use in a well-ventilated area and wear appropriate PPE (nitrile gloves and eye protection). This material has a specific Shelf Life; always check the expiration date on the SEMKIT label before mixing. Application must be performed by a certified A&P mechanic or structural technician.
