Stratoflex 193-8 – PTFE Stainless Steel Braided Hose (-8 Size, 1/2" ID)

Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.

Overview

The Parker Stratoflex 193-8 is a high-performance, low-pressure bulk hose engineered for the most demanding aerospace fluid systems. It is essential to note that while sometimes generically described as a "rubber" hose, this is an advanced composite hose featuring a Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner tube, reinforced with a single braid of high-strength Corrosion Resistant Steel (CRES). This construction provides a far wider range of fluid compatibility and temperature resistance than conventional synthetic rubber hoses.

This -8 (Dash 8) size hose, with a 1/2-inch inside diameter, is manufactured to the SAE AS1933 standard. Its PTFE core is virtually inert to all aircraft fuels, oils, coolants, and hydraulic fluids (including phosphate-ester based Skydrol). The stainless steel braid provides the pressure containment and abrasion resistance required for a long, reliable service life in the engine compartment and throughout the airframe. This product is sold by the foot for the custom fabrication of hose assemblies.

Key Features

  • PTFE (Teflon®) Inner Tube: An extruded, smooth-bore Polytetrafluoroethylene tube provides extreme chemical inertness and is compatible with virtually all aerospace fluids.

  • Corrosion Resistant Steel (CRES) Braid: A single outer braid of 300-series stainless steel provides the 1,000 PSI working pressure capability and protects the inner tube from abrasion and damage.

  • Wide Operating Temperature Range: Suitable for continuous service in extreme thermal environments, from -65°F to +450°F (-54°C to +232°C).

  • Wide Fluid Compatibility: The definitive choice for transporting hydraulic fluids (including Skydrol), fuel, lubricating oils, and pneumatic gases.

  • Low-Profile, Lightweight Design: Offers a high-performance solution with less weight and a smaller bend radius compared to some higher-pressure hose types.

  • -8 Size (1/2" ID): The standard -8 size for a wide range of medium-flow fluid line applications.

Aircraft Compatibility

Stratoflex 193-8 is a universal bulk hose product used to fabricate hose assemblies for all classes of modern, high-performance aircraft, including:

  • Commercial and Transport Category Aircraft (Boeing, Airbus)

  • Business and Corporate Jets (e.g., Textron Aviation, Bombardier, Gulfstream)

  • Military Aircraft

  • High-Performance Piston and Experimental Aircraft

Note: This is bulk hose material. Its applicability is determined by the specific hose assembly being fabricated, as defined by the aircraft or engine maintenance manual.

Applications

  • Fabrication of flexible hose assemblies for medium-pressure hydraulic systems (including Skydrol).

  • Fuel feed and return lines, especially in high-temperature areas or where flexibility is required.

  • Engine and APU oil lines.

  • Pneumatic system lines.

  • WARNING: Not to be confused with low-pressure rubber hose (e.g., MIL-H-6000). Pressure rating and fluid compatibility must be verified for the application.

Why Choose Stratoflex 193-8?

For modern, high-performance aircraft systems, PTFE hose is the engineering standard. Unlike rubber, the Stratoflex 193-8's PTFE core will not degrade, harden, or leach contaminants into the fluid system over time, ensuring system purity and longevity. Its stainless steel braid provides robust protection and pressure containment. Fabricating hose assemblies with certified Stratoflex 193 hose and the corresponding Stratoflex fittings is the professional standard for creating a safe, reliable, and airworthy fluid conveyance system.

The material science of the Stratoflex 193-8 hose centers on its Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) core. PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, renowned for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. More importantly, its molecular structure consists of a strong carbon-carbon backbone completely sheathed by non-reactive fluorine atoms. The carbon-fluorine bond is exceptionally strong, which gives the material its vast service temperature range and makes it chemically inert to nearly all industrial chemicals and solvents. For fuel line applications, the PTFE tube is often co-extruded with a thin, carbon-impregnated inner liner. This conductive liner is a critical safety feature that continuously bleeds off the static electrical charge (P-static) generated by the flow of hydrocarbon fuel. This prevents a high-voltage static potential from building up and arcing, which could cause a fire or explosion.

Note: This is bulk hose material used to fabricate flight-critical hose assemblies. This product has a finite shelf life. Hose assemblies must be fabricated and installed by a certified A&P mechanic using the specialized, mechanically attached Stratoflex 193-series fittings and assembly procedures. The use of simple hose clamps is forbidden. All newly fabricated hose assemblies must be pressure tested in accordance with manufacturer instructions and standard practices (e.g., FAA AC 43.13-1B) before installation.
