Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.
Overview
The Garmin 011-03080-00, also known as the GAE 12, is a genuine OEM, TSO-certified remote altitude encoder, an essential component for modern aircraft surveillance systems. This compact and lightweight unit is designed to interface directly with the aircraft's static pressure system, where it precisely measures pressure altitude and converts this data into a digital format. It then transmits this information to the aircraft's transponder (such as the Garmin GTX 335/345) and any other compatible systems. The GAE 12 is the fundamental building block for providing the critical Mode C and ADS-B Out altitude data required for flight in controlled airspace.
Key Features
High-Accuracy Solid-State Sensor: Utilizes a highly reliable, solid-state pressure sensor to measure static air pressure. This technology provides exceptional accuracy and stability across the entire operational envelope, from sea level to 30,000 feet.
TSO-C88b Certified: Fully certified to the stringent requirements of FAA TSO-C88b for aircraft altitude encoders. This ensures it meets the highest standards for accuracy, reliability, and performance required for IFR flight.
Seamless Garmin Integration: Engineered to connect and communicate flawlessly with Garmin's line of modern transponders, including the GTX 335, GTX 345, and the GNX 375 navigator/transponder. It provides the necessary altitude data for both Mode C and 1090ES ADS-B Out transmissions.
Standard Data Output: Provides altitude data in a standard parallel "Gray Code" format as well as a serial RS-232 format, allowing for broad compatibility with a wide range of transponders and avionics systems from various manufacturers.
Compact & Lightweight: The entire unit is housed in a compact, rugged enclosure, making it easy to mount in any convenient location within the airframe without adding significant weight.

Avionics Compatibility
The Garmin GAE 12 is designed to provide the altitude source for a wide variety of modern and legacy transponder systems.
Primary Garmin Systems:
GTX 335 / 335R (ADS-B Out)
GTX 345 / 345R (ADS-B In/Out)
GNX 375 (GPS Navigator + ADS-B Transponder)
GTX 327 and older legacy transponders.
Universal Application: Its standard data output formats make it a suitable TSO-certified altitude source for transponders from many other manufacturers as well.
Applications
The GAE 12 is a flight-critical sensor for aircraft surveillance and safety:
Mode C Altitude Reporting: Provides the digitized pressure altitude data that the transponder reports to Air Traffic Control (ATC) Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR). This is what enables ATC to see an aircraft's altitude on their radar screen.
ADS-B Out Altitude Source: Serves as the required pressure altitude source for the 1090ES ADS-B Out message, a mandatory component for flight in most controlled airspace worldwide.
Avionics Upgrades: The essential component to add or upgrade when installing a new transponder to meet ADS-B Out requirements in an aircraft that previously had an older or uncertified encoder.
Why Choose 011-03080-00?
Accurate altitude reporting is a cornerstone of modern air traffic control and is essential for safe separation between aircraft. The Garmin GAE 12 is a highly reliable, TSO-certified unit from the world leader in avionics. Its solid-state design ensures it will provide accurate, drift-free altitude data for years without the need for the frequent recalibration required by older, mechanical aneroid-based encoders. For a fully compliant and reliable ADS-B and Mode C system, the GAE 12 is the professional, engineered solution.Order Your Garmin GAE 12 Now

The GAE 12 is a solid-state air data sensor. It takes the static air pressure from the aircraft's pitot-static system and applies it to a highly sensitive, piezoresistive pressure transducer. The transducer's electrical resistance changes in direct proportion to the applied pressure. An internal microprocessor reads this resistance, compares it to the International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) model programmed in its memory, and calculates the corresponding pressure altitude. This altitude is then encoded into two formats simultaneously: the legacy parallel "Gray Code," a 10-line binary format that reports in 100-foot increments, and a modern serial RS-232 format that can provide much higher resolution data to compatible avionics.
Note: This is a flight-critical avionics component. Installation must be performed by a certified A&P mechanic or avionics technician. It must be connected to a leak-free static system source. Following installation, the transponder and encoder system must be tested and certified for accuracy and compliance in accordance with 14 CFR 91.411 and 91.413.
