Halon 1211 (CF2ClBr) extinguishes a fire through a combination of chemical and physical mechanisms. Chemically, it acts as a chain-breaking agent. When introduced to a fire, the Halon molecule decomposes, and the bromine and chlorine radicals are released. These radicals catalytically interrupt the chain reaction of combustion, actively stopping the fire from sustaining itself.
