Overview

The David Clark H10-66 is a genuine OEM, high-performance passive noise-attenuating headset, uniquely engineered for maximum versatility in military and special mission aircraft. Its standout feature is an integrated dual impedance selector switch, which allows the headset to be instantly configured for use with either high-impedance (civilian) or low-impedance (military) radio and intercom systems. This eliminates the need for multiple headsets or cumbersome adapters. Built on the legendary H10-series platform, the H10-66 combines this advanced electronic flexibility with the rugged durability, exceptional comfort, and superior hearing protection that have made David Clark the standard for the U.S. Armed Forces and NATO pilots for decades.

Key Features

  • Dual Impedance Selector Switch: The key feature is a switch on the dome that allows the user to select between a high-impedance (civilian standard) or low-impedance (U.S. military standard) configuration for the earphone circuit. This makes the headset compatible with a vast range of aircraft communication systems.
  • Hinged Wire Boom with M-101 Mic: Features a hinged wire boom that allows for precise microphone placement and can be folded and stowed. It is equipped with the M-101, a high-performance, noise-canceling, low-impedance dynamic microphone for exceptional voice clarity in extreme noise environments.
  • Superior Passive Noise Reduction: The durable, molded ear cups and patented Flo-Fit gel ear seals provide a secure, comfortable seal that delivers a certified Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 27 dB—one of the highest in the passive headset category.
  • Helicopter-Style Configuration: Comes standard with a 5-foot extended coil cord and is terminated with a single U-174/U plug, the standard connector for military and many helicopter intercom systems.
  • Uncompromising Durability: Built to withstand the rigors of military and tactical operations, featuring a robust, abuse-proof design that ensures reliability in the most demanding flight environments.

Aircraft Compatibility

The David Clark H10-66 is the ultimate versatile headset, designed for pilots and crew who operate multiple aircraft types with different avionics systems.

  • Primary Applications:
    • Military Aircraft: The standard for numerous U.S. Army, Air Force, and international military helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
    • Civilian Helicopters: The single U-174/U plug and high-impedance setting make it compatible with most civilian helicopters.
    • Warbirds & Legacy Aircraft: An excellent choice for restored military aircraft that may have either original low-impedance or modernized high-impedance radio systems.
    • Special Mission Aircraft: Ideal for law enforcement, SAR, and other government aircraft that may need to interface with multiple radio types.

Applications

The H10-66 is the professional's choice for reliable, multi-platform communication:

  • Cross-Fleet Operations: Allows a single pilot or crew member to move between military and civilian aircraft without changing their personal headset.
  • Extreme Noise Environments: Its exceptional 27 dB NRR provides superior hearing protection in the loudest cockpits, such as those of military turboprops and helicopters.

Why Choose H10-66?

The David Clark H10-66 is an investment in flexibility and performance. It solves the persistent problem of communication system incompatibility between different aircraft types. Built to military specifications, it is one of the most durable and reliable headsets ever made, providing superior hearing protection and clear communication. For the professional pilot who demands a headset that can do it all, the H10-66 is the proven, trusted solution.

The dual impedance functionality of the H10-66 is achieved through a specialized wiring configuration and a Double-Pole, Double-Throw (DPDT) switch. In the high-impedance (HI-Z) setting, the two 300-ohm earpiece speakers are wired in parallel, resulting in a total impedance of 150 ohms, which is the standard for civilian general aviation radios. In the low-impedance (LO-Z) setting, the switch reconfigures the circuit, often tapping into a lower-impedance winding on the speakers or adding resistors to present a total impedance of approximately 19 ohms to the audio panel, which is the standard for U.S. military communication systems. The M-101 is a low-impedance dynamic microphone, which is the standard for military applications due to its ruggedness and excellent noise-canceling properties.

Note: This headset features a single U-174/U plug. It is not compatible with dual-plug (PJ-055 and PJ-068) fixed-wing aircraft intercom systems without an adapter. Always verify the required impedance setting and plug type for your specific aircraft.
